Dul al-Qidah, also known as Zulqida, is the 11th month in the Islamic calendar. It is one of the four sacred months in Islam during which War is prohibited.

The Islamic calendar is known as the Lunar Calendar, and months start when the first crescent of the new moon is being sighted. The Islamic lunar calendar year is 11 or 12 days shorter than the tropical year, Dhu Al-Qidah moves throughout the season.

There are four most sacred months in Islam. Muharram, Rajab, Dhul Hijjah and Dhul Qidah. Dhul Qidah is a month when Muslims start preparing for Hajj which will take place the next month. 

The importance of Dhul Qidah can be understood from its history. It was the same month when the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah was signed. This treaty led to the expansion of Islam. The treaty was a peace contract signed between Muslims and Quraish for 10 years.

Moreover, it is the same month when Hajj was made compulsory for the Muslim Ummah. This was stated in Hajjah tul Wida (Farewell Hajj). Any individual who is financially and physically sound should perform Hajj once in a lifetime at least.

The importance of this month can be elaborated by the fact that Ali Ibn Abi Talib (R.A.), the brave warrior was born in this month. There were two other Prophets who were born in this sacred month. They were Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Isa. 

The same month the first Umrah was performed by the Muslims under the leadership of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him)

It has been instructed in the Quran that war and fighting are strictly prohibited in this sacred month. This is because this month is followed by Dhul Hijjah.

Muslims can maintain the sacredness of this month by not causing harm to anyone. They can observe Sunnah fasts and read more Quran this month to gain rewards.
