The Saudi Authorities’ advancements in the Grand Mosque aim to save the lives of pilgrims.

The most sacred site in Islam, the Grand Mosque in Makkah has taken safety measures for worshippers facing sudden cardiac arrest. The authorities have installed 15 automated external defibrillators (AED).

The Automated External Defibrillators are portable and have proved to be a life-saving component. The AEDs can send a small electric shock to the heart to restore its normal beat.

The portable devices do not require any medical training and are designed for user-friendly operation.

Positioned strategically throughout the Grand Mosque, frequented by millions of Muslims annually for prayers and the Umrah pilgrimage, these AEDs played a pivotal role in addressing 19 cardiac incidents last year.

Notably, they are stationed at key locations such as the main gates, the mataf (where pilgrims circle the Holy Kaaba), and the Third Extension of the mosque.

In line with Saudi authorities’ commitment to visitor safety and comfort, the AEDs complement a range of medical facilities provided at the Grand Mosque.

Moreover to facilitate the pilgrims new policies have been introduced. One such is the extension in the validity of the Umrah Visa. Now individuals can remain relaxed from 30-90 days after issuance of Umrah Visa.

Added to this Visa holders can enter through any port in the country whether it be land, air, or sea.

Moreover, individuals residing in Gulf Cooperation Council countries have been granted the opportunity to apply for a tourist visa, irrespective of their profession, allowing them to undertake the Umrah pilgrimage.

Saudi citizens can extend invitations to friends from abroad for Umrah, and women pilgrims no longer require a male guardian as an escort.

The Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Tawfiq Al Rabiah, highlighted these advancements. As per the reports around 13.5 million individuals performed Umrah last year which is indeed record-breaking.

The Grand Mosque, a construction of Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail, consists of the Holy Kaaba. The Holy Kaaba holds a significant position in the heart of Muslims.

Saudi authorities with their recent advancements aim to preserve the sanctity of the holy place and ensure the safety, security, and well-being of pilgrims who visit the Holy Place from all around the world.
