A Tarrant County Grand Jury indicted Elizabeth Wolf on attempted capital murder and bodily injury charges against two children, with a hate crime enhancement for targeting them based on their Muslim faith.

Both children have since physically recovered, and their family is receiving support from Tarrant County Victims Services.

The indictment, issued on August 15, includes a hate crime enhancement. The grand jury determined Wolf targeted the children because they were Muslims or of Middle Eastern descent. This enhancement could result in additional prison time if she is convicted.

Shaimaa Zayan, from the Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), has advocated for the hate crime designation since the incident. “It had all the elements of a hate crime,” she said.

The incident took place on May 19 when Wolf, reportedly intoxicated, made racist remarks before attacking a Palestinian woman wearing a hijab and her two children at an apartment pool in Euless.

Wolf scratched the 6-year-old boy, and while the boy’s mother was assisting him, Wolf allegedly grabbed the woman’s 3-year-old daughter and attempted to drown her by holding her underwater.

Fortunately, both children have recovered physically. Zayan described the young girl as “tiny, sweet, and full of life” and expressed sorrow over the attack.

The family is receiving support from Tarrant County Victims Services and is starting to regain their sense of safety. Zayan noted that the mother is gradually rebuilding her confidence in public spaces.

Wolf remains in Tarrant County Jail with a $1 million bond, and the family is awaiting full justice in the case.
