Safety Compliance Required for Pilgrim Housing Permits in Mecca

A special state committee has advised Saudi landlords to visit accredited engineering offices to complete the necessary procedures and ensure their properties meet safety standards before applying for the required permits.

Registration for this process began last month, with the Mecca municipality setting the deadline for applications at the end of Rajab, the seventh month of the Islamic lunar calendar, which corresponds to January 30.

Permits are expected to be issued by the end of the following month, Shaaban.

Accredited engineering offices, in coordination with the municipality and the civil defense service, are tasked with inspecting buildings to ensure they comply with all regulations.

Once a building passes inspection, a certificate will be issued, which the committee will use to grant the necessary permits.

Approximately 1.8 million pilgrims participated in the recent Hajj, which concluded in late June amid extreme heat. Saudi Arabia reported over 1,300 deaths during the last Hajj season.

Authorities have reiterated that a Hajj visa is mandatory for performing the pilgrimage rites in and around Mecca, and they have intensified efforts to prevent unauthorized tours.

A visit visa does not qualify holders to undertake the holy journey.
