Pope Francis made a historic gesture during his visit to Indonesia by kissing the hand of the grand imam Nasaruddin Umar outside Southeast Asia’s largest mosque in Jakarta.

The Pope and the imam pledged to unite in the fight against religiously inspired violence and to protect the planet.

The Pope and the grand imam called for friendship between different religious communities and urged a collaborative effort to address global challenges.

Pope Francis’ visit to Indonesia, the country with the world’s largest Muslim population, is seen as a critical step in fostering greater understanding and cooperation between Christians and Muslims.
