A masked man, reportedly equipped with a helmet and bulletproof vest, stabbed at least five individuals outside a mosque in northwest Turkey on Monday.
The attack took place in Eskisehir, where the 18-year-old suspect targeted people in the mosque’s tea garden before being apprehended by police, according to local reports.
The attacker live-streamed the entire attack, similar to the Christchurch attack.
The suspect, armed with a long knife, livestreamed the attack on the social media platform X. Some sources suggest that as many as seven people were injured.
Witnesses described the attacker as resembling a character from a video game, with an axe at his waist and a “black sun” symbol on his chest, made up of swastikas. He also wore goggles over his mask, completely covering his face.
Despite the chaotic scene, the assailant remained silent and did not disclose any motive for the attack. Some reports from Cumhuriyet speculate that he may have been influenced by war-themed video games. The police are actively investigating the incident.
