Shellfish, which is also known as aquatic shelled fish, are the crustaceans. A few of the basic examples are the prawns, oysters, shrimps, lobsters, and crabs. Many Islamic scholars have stated every type of shelled seafood as halaal. Therefore, crabs, lobsters, shrimps, oysters, and prawns can be declared as eatables.

In the Sunni sect, three School of thoughts out of the total four declares the shellfish as eateries. The Hanbalis, Shafi’i, and Maliki declared that these all are healthy and halaal to have. Out of them, only Hanafi is against it which states that they are Makrooh (detestable).

Many Islamic Scholars have stated frogs to be haram. It can be proved by the fact that our beloved Prophet (PBUH) has recommended His followers not to kill it. Thus, they aren’t edible for us and are also haraam, consequently.

There is a scientific fact as well behind being forbidden by eating them. With the vast development in biology, we came to know that frogs play an essential role to balance the ecosystem. 

As per a study followed by, frogs are an essential aspect in terms of maintaining the populations of the insects at the bay area. They are a significant source of food for the birds and the fishes. Their extinction might leave big destruction over the entire food chart.

Many Islamic scholars have stated crocodiles and alligators as haraam. The reason is that these predators maintain fangs. They also live on both; land and water area.

As per the teachings of our Holy Qur’an, every animal that may cause harm is considered as haraam in terms of eating them as meals even if they directly appear from the sea area. Eating such dangerous animals is forbidden as constructed by the Holy Qur’an. It directs by saying:

A lot of Islamic scholars, from Hanibal, Maliki, and Shafi’i, have stated that squids and octopuses are halaal and edible kinds of seafood. Just the scholars from the Hanafi side have declared them as Makruh. Squids and octopuses are the sea animals and Allah has made a lot of sea creatures that aren’t haraam or harmful to eat. Just as fish is edible, octopuses and squids are eatable without the need for slaughtering.

Islamic scholars have also explained the difference between haram seafood and the halaal ones to benefit the Muslim population. This Article clarifies many doubts Muslims the world over had on halal/haram classificaition of sea food.

Could you please clarify whether Muslims can eat Sharks, because they are dangerous to humans and attack and kill many in a year. There is a prevalent belief that sharks can’t be eaten because of it’s threat to humans
