Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has outlined dress code rules for Muslim women performing Umrah at the Grand Mosque in Mecca. Learn about these guidelines and recent changes in Umrah procedures.

Saudi Arabia, the place where the Holy Kabah and the Masjid an Nabawi are located has introduced a new dress code for Muslim women participating in the Umrah pilgrimage at the Grand Mosque in Mecca. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in the kingdom recently issued guidelines aimed at ensuring that female worshippers maintain modesty while conducting their Umrah rituals.

According to the ministry’s announcement, female Umrah pilgrims have the flexibility to choose their attire, provided it adheres to specific regulations. The key requirements include loose-fitting clothing that is free from decorative elements and ensures the modest covering of the woman’s body. These guidelines are intended to preserve the traditional values and respect for the sacred place in Islam.

This development has come to the forefront as the Umrah season gains momentum in Saudi Arabia.

It has been expected that around 10 Million Muslims will perform Umrah this current season from all over the world. The season commenced 2 months back after the Hajj pilgrimage concluded which resulted in a return of around 1.8 million Muslims after a 3 year long period of pandemic restrictions

Umrah serves as a spiritual journey for Muslims who are unable to undertake the physically and financially demanding Hajj pilgrimage. In recent months, Saudi Arabia has introduced several enhancements to facilitate the arrival of overseas Muslims for Umrah.

One noteworthy change is the extension of the Umrah visa from 30 days to 90 days, allowing pilgrims more time for their religious journey.

Furthermore, individuals holding various types of entry visas, including personal, visit, and tourist visas, are now permitted to undertake Umrah and visit Al Rawda Al Sharifa, which houses the tomb of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) at the Prophet’s Mosque. This can be done by booking an e-appointment, streamlining the process for pilgrims.

Saudi authorities have also implemented more relaxed travel restrictions. Pilgrims can now enter the kingdom through various means, including land, air, and sea outlets, and depart from any airport of their choice. Moreover, it is not mandatory for the women pilgrims to be accompanied by their male mahrams.

In addition, tourist visa programs have also been introduced allowing GCC countries to apply for a tourist visa thus further making it easier for individuals to participate in Umrah

The changes and guidelines from the government are to ensure an accessible and comfortable Umrah journey for all Muslims as per the government.
