In Kuwait, Dr. Bashayer Yousef Abdulaziz Al-Majed has been given the international Muslim of the year award 2020 in the annual British Muslim Awards. Different fields, including economics, law, medicine, and politics, were added by the award, the latter of which was won by Siddiq Khan in 2017, the Mayor of London.
Dr. Majed received her award because of her social and cultural contributions to the United Kingdom. Due to this, her position on different international forums in Islam and Muslim issues, she also attended and delivered lectures at some conferences and completed her graduation with a Ph.D. from the British University. She is the first Arab woman to win this title and award. She is also an honorable model for young Muslims living in Britain. In the Arab world, she is a robust role model for women.
During her acceptance speech, she said that she is fortunate to be invited to speak in many prestigious academic conferences to encourage younger Muslim and Muslim women and show that Young Muslim women can gain a lot. She further said that she is enthusiastic about what she’s doing through academia and the government. She also wanted to challenge the global perceptions of Muslim countries.
At the British Muslim Awards, she ended her speech with the Messenger (PBUH) “the believer for the believer is like an edifice.” She said that she would further strive to continue her support and empower the young women and encourage Muslim youth’s achievements and reach their potential in Kuwait. The British ambassador Michael Davenport received Dr. Majed and congratulated her for the award.
