Discover the longest and shortest fast durations observed during Ramadan 2024 across the globe.
From sunrise to sunset, explore the diverse range of fasting times and rituals that make this holy month such a unique and meaningful experience for Muslims worldwide.
Ramadan is one of the most significant months in Islam as it was the month when the Holy Prophet (PBUH) expected the first exposure from God. It is also the month when the latter verse of the Holy Quran was discovered.
Due to the tilt of the Earth and the sun’s position, fasting hours during Ramadan vary. Near the equator, fasting hours tend to be shorter, while in northern and southern latitudes, fasting periods can exceed 20 hours, depending on the season.
In places like Greenland and Alaska, where the sun never sets, Islamic scholars advise Muslims to fast during the hours of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, since it is the holiest site in Islam. Countries such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar observe up to 14 hours of fasting per day throughout the holy month, with most countries observing 14 hours.
During Ramadan, the Islamic calendar’s ninth month, Muslims abstain from food and drink during daylight hours and engage in spiritual practices that promote faith, patience, and community.
Here is the list of fasting durations around the world for Ramadan 2024:
