The microphone identified in the 2026 post is the Earthworks Audio FlexMic Gen 2, a gooseneck condenser microphone designed for professional speech applications.

Earthworks describes the FlexMic Gen 2 as an updated version of its podium microphone range, developed for professional audio in podiums, houses of worship and broadcast productions.

The company’s specifications identify the FlexMic Gen 2 as a pre-polarized condenser microphone with either cardioid or supercardioid polar patterns, depending on the model. It has a stated frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz and requires 48V phantom power.

Microphones Serving the Mihrab, Minbar and Mukabariya

According to the Haramain Archive post, the Earthworks microphones are used for three important audio positions within Masjid an-Nabawi:

Mihrab: The area associated with the imam leading the prayer.

Minbar: The elevated pulpit traditionally used for the Friday khutbah and other sermons.

Mukabariya: The position used for repeating and relaying the imam’s takbir so that worshippers farther away can follow the prayer.

What Makes the FlexMic Gen 2 Different?

The FlexMic Gen 2 uses a copper-wound gooseneck that allows its position to be adjusted while keeping the microphone relatively unobtrusive.

Earthworks offers the microphone in three gooseneck lengths: FM5R, FM6R and FM7R. Each length is available in cardioid and supercardioid versions. The manufacturer lists a 10 mm diaphragm, 20 dBA A-weighted self-noise and a maximum SPL of 141 dB at 3% THD.

The microphone has an anodized aluminum body and a painted steel windscreen. Its low-profile construction is intended for situations where the microphone needs to remain close to the speaker while minimizing visual obstruction.
