MAKKAH, SAUDI ARABIA — The Two Holy Mosques Religious Presidency will hold special Salat Al Khusuf (moon eclipse prayers) on Sunday, 15 Rabi Al Awwal 1447 (7 September 2025) at both the Grand Mosque (Masjid al Haram) in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid an Nabawi) in Madinah.

The prayer will be performed in congregation following the Maghrib prayer.

The announcement is based on the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who said: “The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of someone’s death. So whenever you see these eclipses, pray and invoke Allah till the eclipse is over.”

Imams at both mosques will lead worshippers in the eclipse prayer, which consists of two rak’ahs. Islamic astronomers confirm a partial lunar eclipse will be visible in Saudi Arabia on that evening.
