A 66-year-old man from Texas was shot and killed while attempting to sell a cellphone on Facebook Marketplace, according to the Dallas Police Department.
The suspect, 19-year-old Amaya Medrano, has been charged with capital murder, police confirmed on November 13.
Ahmad Alkhalaf was found dead at an Oak Cliff gas station on November 8. Officers discovered his body next to his pickup truck.
The incident took place around 3 p.m. in the 300 block of South Marsalis Avenue.
Dallas Police responded to a shooting and found that Alkhalaf had been shot.
Dallas Fire-Rescue transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Alkhalaf had been attempting to sell an iPhone 15 to a buyer he met through Facebook Marketplace. Surveillance footage shows Alkhalaf briefly conversing with the suspect before Medrano allegedly shot him and fled the scene.
Police tracked down Medrano after discovering the stolen phone listed for sale on the same Facebook account that Alkhalaf had interacted with. She was identified through her tattoos, which were visible in the footage.
Court records show Medrano had previously pleaded guilty to stabbing someone in 2023 and was serving a five-year probation sentence at the time of the shooting.
Medrano is currently held in the Dallas County Jail with a $1 million bond. The Dallas Police Department currently investigating the case. Anyone with information is urged to contact 214-671-4095.
