MAKKAH: After months of speculation, the Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques confirmed on Wednesday evening, through the release of the annual Taraweeh Schedule ahead of Ramadan, that Sheikh Saud Ash Shuraim has retired from his role as Imam and Khateeb of Masjid Al Haram.

Last Prayer of Sheikh Saud Al-Shuraim
In January, rumors began to circulate regarding the resignation of a well-known Imam from one of the Harams. In February, The Islamic Information confirmed that the Imam in question was indeed Sheikh Saud Ash Shuraim. However, the reason for his early retirement has not been revealed.
Sources close to the situation have informed Inside the Haramain that it was upon the Imam’s request that he retire. Sheikh Shuraim’s absence will leave the House of Allah without a familiar voice, marking the end of an era for Masjid Al Haram.
