  • MUIS has cut Friday sermon length in Singapore due to hot weather and haze
  • Sermons will now run under four pages, down from the usual six to seven
  • The shortened sessions apply from this week until further notice

Why The Change Was Made

The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) has shortened Friday sermon sessions across the country’s mosques starting this week. The move responds to hotter weather and haze affecting parts of Singapore.

MUIS shared the update in an Instagram post on Friday, Aug 21. The council said: “As the weather gets hotter and some parts of Singapore begin to experience the haze, we’re making a small but necessary adjustment to our Friday sermon.”

How Much Shorter The Sermon Will Be

The first sermon usually runs six to seven pages. Under the new arrangement, it will be under four pages.

MUIS added: “May this help make it a little easier for everyone to gather, worship and remain comfortable during these challenging weather conditions.”

How Long This Will Last

The shortened sermon sessions will continue until further notice.
