Makkah, Saudi Arabia — The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques has announced that Sheikh Saleh Al Humaid, the newly appointed Chief of Imams at Masjid Al Haram, will lead the Eid al-Fitr 2025 prayer at Islam’s holiest site.
Sheikh Saleh Al Humaid, known for his profound Quranic recitations and inspiring sermons, is a revered figure in the Islamic world.
The Eid prayer at Masjid Al Haram draws millions of worshipers from across the globe. Live broadcast will allow Muslims worldwide to participate virtually.
Born in Al-Qassim, Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Saleh Al Humaid has dedicated his life to Islamic scholarship and service. He earned his doctorate in Islamic Studies from Umm Al-Qura University and has served as an imam at Masjid Al Haram for decades.
In addition to his role at Masjid Al Haram, Sheikh Al Humaid has served as the Chairman of the Saudi Shura Council and has been a vocal advocate for interfaith dialogue and global peace.
Eid al-Fitr 2025 is expected to occur on March 29th or 30th, depending on the sighting of the moon, and signifies the start of Shawwal.
Eid al-Fitr, also known as the “feast of breaking the fast”, is a three-day celebration filled with rest, good tidings, and acts of worship. Muslims are encouraged to pray, wear their best clothes, share gifts, and make du’a during this festive time. Zakat ul-Fitr, a donation of food, is also given before the Eid prayer.
Sheikh Humaid has served as the Senior Imam of the Grand Mosque in Makkah since 1984, led the Shura Council from 2002 to 2008, and headed the Supreme Judicial Council from 2009 to 2011.
He is also a prolific author, having written over a dozen books on Islamic jurisprudence and dawah, with several translated into multiple languages.
