MAKKAH – To facilitate the worshippers to navigate through the vast area of the Grand Mosque in Saudi Arabia the Saudi Agency has agreed to split the area into different zones.
To make it easier for worshippers to find their way around the Grand Mosque during pilgrimage the Saudi Agency in charge of Islam’s two holiest sites in Saudi Arabia has signed a contract to explore splitting up the Grand Mosque into different areas with different zones.
The agreement was signed between the General Authority for Care of the Two Holy Mosques and the Saudi Postal and Logistics Company during a conference that was related to the Islamic Hajj pilgrimage in 2024.
This agreement aimed to examine how to divide the Grand Mosque, which is the most sacred site in Islam, along with its surrounding areas into coded zones. The division aims to help identify specific areas and give clear directions to the worshippers as well as workers through the vast area.
To provide the highest quality of service the agreement also aimed to assist in not only organizing staff based on available space but also in the evaluation of performance.
As per the Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah and Umrah Tawfiq Al Rabiah around 13.4 million pilgrims performed Umrah last year. Pilgrimage to the Holy Kaaba attracts millions of Muslims each year worldwide for prayers and the Umrah.
Moreover, various facilities have also been introduced by the Saudi government to facilitate Muslims coming to the country to perform the pilgrimage. These include permission for the Visa holders to enter the country through all outlets, including land, air, and sea.
In another move to make things easier, Saudi Arabia has allowed its citizens to invite friends from abroad to visit and undertake Umrah. Female pilgrims are no longer required to have male guardians accompanying them, and the kingdom has announced that individuals living in Gulf Cooperation Council countries can apply for a tourist visa, regardless of their profession, to perform Umrah.

This will give functional space, help traffic flow, manage noise level, optimal use of land area, protect certain resources and help adapt growing pilgrims needs and create extra dose of style. Zoning of area will also look visually and physcially more intimate and functional for pilgrims benefits.
