Dominos’s franchise in Bayan Lepas, Penang gives receipts that explicitly insult Islam to a customer, Malaysian law enforcement authorities are investigating the issue.
Police Chief Superindentent of Southeast district, Kamarul Rizal Jenal confirmed the report logged on May 15, 2024.
As per the investigations done by police, the customer placed an order through Domino’s application at around 3:05 PM (Malaysian Time) and when the customer received the order, it had insulting remarks printed on the receipt.
The incident is being examined under the provisions of Section 298 of the Criminal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act.
Amanah’s Bayan Lepas state assemblyman Datuk Azrul Mahathir Aziz mentioned on his Social Media page that he had visited the franchise and the Teluk Bahang police station intending to get an explanation for this action.
He further said in his social media post that he initially thought it was a misunderstanding during the generation of the receipt by the cashier. But, the kind of language used seemed like someone who was frustrated and intentionally wrote those words.
Datuk also thanked all the people who had come out to lodge the police reports and also urged authorities to resolve the matter.
Arrests have been made
Penang state police have confirmed that they have arrested four foreigners for mocking religious printing on the Domino’s receipt.
Chief of Penang state police Hamzah Ahmed said that the arrests have been made after receiving 17 police reports.
The arrested individuals are:
- 3 Myanmarese
- 1 Malay
Individuals are aged between 19 to 67.
