Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr. Tawfiq al-Rabiah, announced today that the daily capacity of Rawdah Al Sharifah at Masjid al-Nabawi (the Prophet’s Mosque) in Madinah has been increased to over 52,000 visitors.
The expansion is part of ongoing efforts to accommodate the growing number of pilgrims and enhance their spiritual experience during the Hajj and Umrah seasons.
According to the minister, the capacity boost was achieved through infrastructure upgrades, including the addition of 12 new entrances to Rawdah Al Sharifah, which allows for smoother and safer movement of visitors.
The area has also been equipped with advanced crowd management systems, climate-controlled zones, and enhanced security measures to ensure pilgrims can perform their rituals comfortably.
“Rawdah Al Sharifah holds immense religious significance for Muslims, and this expansion reflects our commitment to preserving its sanctity while meeting the needs of millions of visitors,” said Dr. al-Rabiah. “The improvements will reduce waiting times and provide a more serene environment for prayer and reflection.”
The Prophet’s Mosque, one of Islam’s holiest sites, attracts millions of pilgrims annually. The expansion project, which began in 2022, also includes the installation of smart surveillance systems and additional facilities for elderly and disabled visitors.
Authorities have urged pilgrims to use the “Nusuk” app for real-time updates on mosque capacity and logistics to avoid overcrowding.
With Hajj season 1446/2025 underway, Saudi Arabia continues to prioritize the safety and comfort of pilgrims, blending tradition with modern innovation to uphold the sanctity of Islam’s holiest sites.
