The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that a bus carrying Indonesian Umrah pilgrims was involved in an accident in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The accident occurred on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.
According to Judha Nugraha, the ministry’s director of protection of citizens and legal entities overseas, the accident occurred around 23:30 local time. According to reports, there was only one bus involved in the accident.
The accident claimed the lives of two Indonesian citizens, the driver and the muthawif (the umrah guide). During a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, October 27, 2022, Judha stated that six pilgrims had been injured.
He explained that a team from the Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah was dispatched to Mecca immediately following the information receipt. Other parties were not involved in the accident, it was confirmed.
Medical treatment was provided to the injured pilgrims at the King Abdul Aziz Hospital in Mecca City. One is still undergoing treatment, while the other five have been permitted to continue their holy pilgrimage.
