The app not mentioned that its selling users’ location data means that the people who installed it are not aware of it, as reported by Vice.
Another app called the Muslim pro had also sold their data to the X-Mode Social, which sold their products to the US military with contractors’ help.
These agencies can use the location for tracking the users if they have any suspicion of wrongdoing. However, its aspect is to put Muslims under constant surveillance. In many countries, the Muslim population also in the US has been vilified over the years, especially after ISIS emergence in Syria.
The leaked datasets had precise latitude and longitude of the users, timestamp phone model, IP address, and operating system besides advertising ID. It permits the agencies to target the users and follow their movements.
According to the separate vice investigation into this app, Google and Apple have restricted X Mode from their app stores the independent Vice investigation.
