- Hajj wait is now 14 years
- 400,000 invalid records removed
- Prabowo wants it shorter still
President Prabowo Subianto met the Minister and Vice Minister of Hajj and Umrah at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Monday, September 28, 2026.
Vice Minister Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak told the media that the Hajj waiting time for Indonesian pilgrims departing this year now averages 14 years.
Prabowo gave the ministry his full support in cutting the waiting period. He also told officials to keep searching for a formula that shortens it further. Dahnil said the president wants a solution to a problem that was once far worse: “since the Hajj Ministry has been established, the longest waiting time was 49 years.”
From 49 Years to 26 Years
The government first changed the formula used to calculate the waiting time. Dahnil said this brought the national average down to 26 years last year. Prabowo still found that too long and asked for more improvement.
400,000 Invalid Records Cleared
The ministry then cleaned and validated the data of 5.7 million Hajj pilgrims. It found 400,000 invalid records. Once the data was corrected and the waiting time recalculated, the average for pilgrims departing this year came to 14 years.
Dahnil summed up the change in one line: “from 49 to 26 years, the Hajj waiting period is now 14 years.”
The government plans to keep improving Hajj data and governance. The goal is to give prospective pilgrims more accurate waiting-time information and greater certainty about when they can depart.
