JAKARTA – A Hindu woman has been sentenced to two years in prison and fined heavily after she filed a video on TikTok reciting Islamic prayer before eating pork.
Lina Mukherjee, 33, was found guilty of making fun of Islam and Muslims on Tuesday at the South Sumatra court in the city of Palembang.
Mukherjee released the video in March 2023, in which she was seen reciting “Bismillah” (in the name of Allah) before eating pork skin.
Pork is forbidden in Islam. However, Mukherjee identifies herself as a Muslim, but the top official of the Indonesian Ulema Council called the video blasphemous.
