Ulema Issue Fatwa Ban Praying Mosque Coronavirus

Ulema are ready to issue fat that will ban praying in Mosque until the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic goes away completely.


SUC (Supreme Ulema Council) at Al-Azhar University which is located in Egypt. Supreme Ulema Council issued a fatwa to ban praying in mosque to stop the spread of Coronavirus pandemic outbreak.

Issuance of this fatwa means that it is obligatory on every Muslim to follow this fatwa. Adding more to this, Al-Azhar University is a highly respectable source of fatwas that Muslims follow all around the world.

The fatwa is based on Sharia Laws, this fatwa also bans Public gatherings such as Friday Prayers as well, as these public gathering can double up the number of Coronavirus cases, banning it would be the only solution.

After this fatwa, Presidents of Muslim countries have started completely suspending praying in mosques.

This fatwa came from Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb, who put a ban praying in mosque. He added that this decision is tough but it had to be done to protect Muslims from COVID-19.

Before this, he had given the fatwa of suspending Friday prayer. Even Friday prayer at Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an Nabawi also got suspended.

Novel coronavirus had generated from the Wuhan, a city in China at the end of December 2019. It has now spread in all continents (excluding Antarctica). This is a respiratory illness that has killed thousands of people and infected tens of thousands of people all around the world.
