Saudi Arabia has announced a temporary suspension on issuing new short-term visas as part of efforts to manage the high influx of visitors during Hajj 2025.
The suspension affects business visit visas (both single- and multiple-entry), e-tourist visas, and family visit visas for citizens from 14 countries, including India, Egypt, Pakistan, Yemen, Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan, Nigeria, Algeria, Indonesia, Iraq, Sudan, Bangladesh, and Libya.
The ban will take effect on April 13, 2025. However, travelers from these nations who already hold valid visas will be allowed entry until that date, but must exit the Kingdom by April 29, 2025.
This decision follows logistical challenges and overcrowding observed during the previous Hajj season, when many pilgrims entered using visas that were not intended for the pilgrimage.
Saudi officials explained that the new restrictions are designed to streamline the arrival process and maintain the safety and organization of the pilgrimage. In a related announcement, updated guidelines for Umrah travel have been issued.
Umrah visas will be available from the 14th of Dhu al-Hijjah until the 15th of Shawwal, with all pilgrims required to depart by the 1st of Dhu al-Qa’dah.
The Kingdom has reiterated the importance of using the correct visa type for religious travel and warned that failure to comply with these regulations could lead to legal consequences.
