As the Islamic month of Shaban draws to a close, Muslims in Saudi Arabia and around the world are preparing for the holy month of Ramadan. The crescent moon, which signifies the beginning of Ramadan, will be searched for on Friday, February 28, 2025, corresponding to the 29th of Shaban, 1446 AH.
If the crescent moon is visible after Maghrib prayers on February 28, Ramadan will begin on Saturday, March 1, 2025. However, if it is not sighted, fasting will start on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized the need to sight the moon to mark the beginning and end of fasting periods.
In Saudi Arabia, dedicated committees are tasked with observing the moon and reporting their findings.
Citizens are also encouraged to participate in this significant event by looking for the crescent themselves.
As February 28 approaches, astronomers and local authorities will monitor conditions conducive to moon visibility.
The International Astronomical Centre has indicated that there is a high likelihood of seeing the crescent moon that evening.
However, final confirmation will depend on traditional sighting methods conducted by local observers.
