A public holiday has been declared in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan to mark the beginning of the new Islamic year.
According to the provincial government’s notification, a public holiday will be observed on the first day of the holy month of Muharram. This holiday will be contingent upon the sighting of the Muharram moon, with all government offices, educational institutions, and businesses closed across the province.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, led by Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir, is set to meet on July 6 to observe the moon.
New Islamic Year Public Holiday Date
- If the moon is sighted on July 6, the public holiday will be on July 7 (Sunday).
- If the Muharram moon is not sighted, the holiday will be on July 8 (Monday).
