Muslims Should Not Have The Right To Vote, Says Bihar BJP MLA

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator in Bihar, Haribushan Thakur, recently issued a controversial statement against Muslims amid anti-Islam sentiment in India.

On February 25, BJP MLA from Bisfi in Madhubani district told the media that Muslims have been granted a separate country since Partition in 1947; therefore, they should leave for Pakistan. Added that if they still decide to stay in India, they should live like second-class citizens.

He argued that Muslims should not have the right to vote and urged the government to take away the voting rights of Muslims.

In the same interview, he added a false statement by alleging that Muslims today intend to turn India into an “Islamist state.”

The State BJP Unit has issued a performance notice, urging him to explain his controversial remarks.

On the other hand, the party’s ruling alliance partner, Janata Dal-United (JD-U), reacted sharply to Thakur’s statement by saying that his statement was preposterous and inflammatory.

BJP State President Sanjay Jaiswal confirmed that the party had disassociated itself from Thakur’s statement and at the same time had issued a show-cause notice to him to explain as soon as possible why he said what he said.

Mr. Thankur, known for making controversial comments, has not yet commented after issuing the show-cause notice.

JD(U) leader and party spokesman Neeraj Kumar also criticized the inappropriate statements made by the BJP MLA. He said that Mr. Thakur has no knowledge of Indian citizenship, nor does he decide the nationality of people living in India. And believed that he made such statements to get media attention.

Recently, a video has gone viral on social media showing BJP MLA from Govindganj in Bihar’s East Champaran district, Sunil Mani Tiwari, telling people in his constituency that if someone wants to live in India, then he should say Radhe – Radhe, Jai Shri Ram, and Vande Mataram. This is (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) and Yogi (UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath) government.
