Madinah’s Historical Al-Faqir Well Reopens After Restoration

Al-Faqir well, linked to Prophet Muhammad’s acts of Charity, was restored and reopened in Madinah.

The doors for the historic Al-Faqir Well in Madinah have now been opened for visitors after an extensive restoration process. This well holds incredible significance as it is a reflection of the charity of the Holy Prophet peace be upon him. The well has stood there for over 14 centuries.

Situated in the Al-Aliyah district, the well is surrounded by orchards and various other sites linked to the Prophet’s life. Originally, water was drawn from the three-meter diameter well using traditional waterwheels, later replaced by pumps.

Currently, the Al-Faqir Well is managed and developed by the Al-Madinah Region Development Authority and other relevant bodies. Apart from the well itself, the site boasts additional features such as a pool and water channels that supply water to nearby orchards, naturally fed by the waters of the Bathan Valley.

The recent restoration efforts, documented by the Saudi Press Agency, have brought several enhancements. A one-meter-high iron fence now encircles the well and its channels, while the water channels and main gate have been meticulously reinforced with locally sourced volcanic stone. Restoration work was carried out to preserve the original appearance of the well.

With stone benches strategically placed for comfort and green palm trees, the site now offers a more welcoming atmosphere. The inner landscaped courtyard adds to the beauty of the well. Visitors to the revitalized site will now find a more relaxing and beautiful environment.

An information board offering insights into the life of Prophet peace be upon is also placed at the entrance giving the area a more fascinating look.
