MAKKAH – The Imam of the Kaaba, Sheikh Maher Al Muaiqly, fainted during the Jummah prayer at Masjid al-Haram on Friday, August 11, 2023.
While leading the prayer, Sheikh Maher suddenly felt unwell and stopped reciting Surah al-Fatihah.
After he stopped, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al Sudais, President of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, quickly stepped in to continue the prayer.
Sheikh Maher was then taken to a medical center where doctors examined him and gave him a clean bill of health. They said he was suffering from a mild case of dehydration and fatigue, and advised him to rest and drink plenty of fluids. They also said that he would be able to resume his duties soon, God willing.
