A Malaysian man on 2026 hajj pilgrimage died after collapsing at the courtyard of Masjid al-Haram (Grand Mosque) in Makkah on May 1, 2026. The 65-year-old from Pahang lost consciousness while walking to Friday prayers.
According to Mohd Hisham Harun, head of the Malaysian haj delegation, the man collapsed and lost consciousness in the mosque courtyard.
Medical teams provided initial treatment including resuscitation at the scene. The man was transferred to Jiwar Jabal Omar Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:15pm local time. Doctors cited Heart complications as the main cause.
Tabung Haji, the Malaysian government-owned Islamic financial institution that manages pilgrimage savings, handled all funeral arrangements.
The body was brought to Masjid al-Haram (Grand Mosque) for funeral prayer before burial at Al Sharayea Cemetery after Maghrib prayer.
The deceased had arrived in Saudi Arabia with his wife for the annual Hajj 2026 pilgrimage. Their travel and savings were managed through Tabung Haji, Malaysia’s government-owned Islamic financial institution that facilitates pilgrimages for Muslims in the country.
Mohd Hisham confirmed that the man’s wife received immediate support from the Malaysian haj mission’s welfare unit, counselors, and religious guides. They visited her at the hospital and provided necessary assistance during the difficult time.
