JEDDAH – As per reports it has been officially released that the Saudi National Airline is all set to use electric aircraft as a transportation medium for the pilgrims to assist them to travel between Jeddah and the Grand Mosque.
The Saudi National airline has decided to use lithium jets. It has purchased around 100 jets from a renowned German Company. Lithium jets are electric aircraft that can take off and land vertically.
The jets are planned to fly between Jeddah airport and the strips near hotels in Mecca exactly where the Grand Mosque is located.
The head of corporate communication in Saudi Arabia, Abdullah Al Shahrani however did not reveal the starting date of the aircraft service but stated that the airline is working with legal authorities to get permission to use the vehicles which will indeed result in qualitative improvement in transportation for pilgrims.
He further stated that it is the first time such a venture is being launched in the country.
Saudi Arabia consists of the Holy Kaaba and hosts millions of pilgrims everywhere to perform Hajj & Umrah. It has been recorded that nearly 2 million pilgrims performed Hajj in 2023 after the pandemic.
Moreover, 13.5 million pilgrims performed Umrah in 2023 which is the highest record according to the Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah Tawfiq Al Rabiah. Various facilities have also been introduced for Muslims in the country.
To facilitate the pilgrims the government has allowed the entrance of individuals through any land, air, or seaport with a visa.
Women pilgrims don’t require male guardians and even Saudi citizens can invite their friends to perform Umrah. Gulf countries can apply for tourist visas regardless of their profession and perform Umrah.
Saudi Arabia is home to the holy site of the Grand Mosque which consists of the Holy Kaaba which Muslims face when they pray. The mosque is the site of several rituals that pilgrims perform during Umrah and Hajj.
