Police has arrested a man who threatened Muslim women with a knife in Canada.
On Thursday, local media reported that police are still searching for the suspect of an attack that targeted two Muslim sisters taken place in the western Canada Province of Albert, which is called a hate-motivated crime.
The two women got approached by a man wearing a mask in St. Albert, the man shouting racial slurs to the victims while swinging his knife, said the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
The man grabs one sister by her hijab then throws her to the ground, then she was rendered unconscious. The man also knocked the other one to the ground and held her throat with his knife while still yelling racial slurs at her.
Then he proceeds to run away from the scene, said the police. Both of the sisters suffered non-life-threatening injuries, even though one of them was taken to the hospital.
Police brought a dog to track the suspect, but he managed to escape and is now on the police search list. St. Albert Mayor Cathy Heron said that Muslims are supposed to feel safe and welcome in their communities. Many of them are not feeling safe right now is heartbreaking.
The suspect was around 50, six feet tall, wearing dark jeans, a navy shirt, and a red and white bandana.
CTV News reported that the Edmonton area had been the scene of several hate-motivated crime attacks this year; this includes a woman in her 50’s was grabbed from behind and thrown to the pavement while she was out for a walk. Back in March, a man was charged for uttering slurs to a teenager wearing a hijab.
St. Albert is home to 65,000 people, located about 12 kilometers or 7.45 miles from Edmonton. Ironically, MoneySense digital magazine named St. Albert as the best place to live in Canada in 2014.
In a recent anti-Muslim attacked killed the Muslim family.
