This dua is a Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and a command from Allah Himself in the Quran.
Dua To Recite At Maqam Ibrahim
This instruction comes directly from the Quran, in Surah Al-Baqarah, and is reinforced in the Hadith.

وَٱتَّخِذُوا۟ مِن مَّقَامِ إِبْرَٰهِـۧمَ مُصَلًّۭى ۖ
Transliteration:
Wat-takhizoo mim maqaami ibraaheema musallaa
Translation:
“And take, [O believers], from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer.”
Why is this Dua Significant?
It links our worship today to the actions of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who built the Kaaba with his son Ismail. By praying at this very spot, we are following a divine order and connecting with the roots of our faith. We are walking in the footsteps of the prophets.
Maqam Ibrahim contains the stone on which Prophet Ibrahim stood while constructing the Holy Kaaba. Praying two rakats here holds great value. It is a prayer of thanks to Allah for giving you the strength and opportunity to perform Tawaf.
How many times should you recite this dua
- Recite this dua once after completing your Tawaf, before and after performing two rakahs of salah near Maqam-e-Ibrahim.
- If the area is too crowded, it’s perfectly fine to offer the two rakahs anywhere within the Mataaf area, as long as you face the Kaaba.
Once your Tawaf is complete. men should cover both shoulders with the upper garment of the Ihram.
According to Jami` at-Tirmidhi (Hadith 869), in the first rakah, you may recite Surah Al-Kafirun, and in the second rakah, Surah Al-Ikhlas. However, this is not mandatory; you may recite any other surahs of your choice.
