A Bangladeshi cleric with more than three million followers on Facebook and Youtube has issued a fatwa banning people from using Facebook’s emoji ‘haha’ to mock people.
A well-known cleric with a huge online following has issued a fatwa banning people from using Facebook’s ‘haha’ emoji to mock people.
Cleric named Ahmadullah, who has more than three million followers on Facebook and Youtube, regularly appears on television to discuss religious issues in the Muslim-majority country.
He posted a video with a three-minute duration discussing people mocking on Facebook and continue to issue a fatwa, an Islamic edict, explaining that it is haram/forbidden for Muslims.
In the video viewed more than two million times, Ahmadullah saying that people are using Facebook’s ‘haha’ emojis nowadays.
He explained that it is fine if we using the ‘haha emoji purely out of fun and the same was intended by the person who posted it.
But if our reaction was intended to mock or ridicule people who posted or commenting on social media then it is totally forbidden in Islam.
He requests people to refrain from this act. He said do not react with the ‘haha’ emoji to mock someone, cause if you hurt a Muslim then he may respond with an unexpected with bad language.
Thousand of followers have reacted to his video, most of them react positively, however, several hundred made fun of it, mocking using the ‘haha’ emoji.
Their comments on religious and social issues are successfully popular on the internet, they have collected millions of views on their videos. Some of them got popular for bizarre claims on the origin of the coronavirus.
Some others are accused of preaching hatred, not only that many of them have become celebrities for their fun-filled and creative video.
