HONG KONG — The Islamic Union of Hong Kong has launched an emergency donation drive for victims of the Wang Fuk Court fire that killed 128 residents and left hundreds missing in the city’s deadliest building disaster in over seventy years.

The organization is accepting cash donations at its general office and crossed cheques payable to “Islamic Union of Hong Kong” with “Taipo Fire” noted on the reverse.

The fire began around 2:50 PM on November 26, rapidly consuming seven of eight 31-story residential towers housing approximately 4,000-4,800 residents.

Authorities attribute the rapid spread to highly flammable construction materials, including bamboo scaffolding, green netting, and polystyrene boards installed during ongoing renovations.

Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee has ordered citywide inspections of all housing estates undergoing major repairs following the tragedy.

Three individuals—two company directors and a contractor—face manslaughter and gross negligence charges, while the Independent Commission Against Corruption investigates potential corruption in the renovation project.

The death toll continues to rise as recovery teams conduct room-by-room searches in the extensively damaged structures.
