Cyprus: Syrian Man Arrested for Alleged Theft at Larnaca Mosque

A 30-year-old Syrian man was apprehended in Larnaca regarding a theft at a nearby mosque, which occurred on Wednesday afternoon.

A 30-year-old Syrian man was arrested in Larnaca in connection with a theft at a local mosque, following an incident on Wednesday afternoon.

Police were alerted around 2:30 p.m. when reports emerged that the man, speaking Arabic, had caused a disturbance inside the mosque before allegedly taking various items.

According to the Cyprus News Agency, the mosque’s hodja reported that the suspect had been attending prayer sessions and was suspected of taking items belonging to the mosque on multiple occasions.

Following these reports, an arrest warrant was issued, and the man was located and taken into custody at 11 p.m.

The individual, who holds a subsidiary protection residence permit, is expected to appear before the Larnaca district court on Thursday as investigations continue.
