Saudi Arabian authorities have ordered the demolition of Imam Hussain mosque in Qatif, where a Shia leader Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr, usually led the prayers.
As reported by Al Jazeera, the Imam Hussain mosque in Qatif, located in the eastern province, will be completely demolished under the latest projects’ development.
Saudi Arabian rights activist, Adel al-Saeed, told the news that this mosque’s demolition is the mission towards destroying anything that reminds people of Sheikh Nimr.
Sheikh NImr was accused of criticizing Saudi authorities, he was arrested in 2012, and in 2014, he was sentenced to death by the Specialized Criminal Court of Saudi Arabia.
Adel also said that no matter what Saudi authorities do, Sheikh Nimr’s memory will live on, Saudi Arabian rights activist underlined.
Saudi Arabia executed 47 prisoners, including Sheikh Nimr, on January 2, 2016. These executions were widely criticized by world human rights groups and governments of different countries.
In 2016, his death caused widespread protests in the Arabian peninsula.
Absolutely disgraceful conduct of the saudi authorities.
This is the Heights of Divisiveness between the Sunni and Shia Factions of Islam.
If the Imam is guilty then initiate action against him. Why destroy the Masjid ? Are they not crossing boundaries ?
This incident will further widen the divide between these two factions
