A South Korean tourist visiting Mardin, a city in southeastern Türkiye known for its old architecture and layered history, converted to Islam during his trip. The visitor is identified as Shaevn.

According to the Artuklu District Mufti’s Office, Shaevn decided to become Muslim while touring the city. The office held a formal ceremony to mark the conversion.

The ceremony took place at the Mufti’s Office and was led by Artuklu District Mufti Suleyman Baran. During the ceremony, Shaevn recited the shahada, the Islamic declaration of faith, and became a Muslim.

After the ceremony, Shaevn chose the name “Abdullah.” Baran then gave Abdullah a copy of the Quran to mark the occasion.

Mardin is known for its historic buildings and culture shaped by different civilizations over centuries. The city draws visitors from across Türkiye and abroad.
