In an interview with News Corp Australia, former Australia opener Matthew Hayden, who is now with team Pakistan as batting consultant in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, said that the goalkeeper-Batsman Mohammad Rizwan presented him with an English version of the Holy Quran.
Hayden further explained that even though he was a Christian, he is curious about Islam, and it was Rizzy (Muhammad Rizwan) that had helped him by giving him an English version of the Quran. Hayden also revealed that he had been reading a bit of the Quran every day, and for him, Rizwan is “a champion human being.”
On the same occasion, this former left-handed hitter also argues that the previous assumption about the mindset of the players who previously existed turned out to be wrong as his experience proved otherwise.
Hayden said he had been impressed to learn how neutral and humble the Pakistani players were. The commitment and faith that the players have is an implication that he was not aware of before, and they connect to a higher level, he added.
The 50-year-old also commented on the Pakistan cricket team’s dressing room, which he described as a dressing room with a spectacular discipline and more humble approach to winning, which he has not seen in any other team.
Hayden said that seeing the way they engage with their sense of spirituality and purpose around their country is a phenomenal cultural experience for him.
In one of his previous interviews, Hayden also praised the team captain, Babar Azam. he sees Babar as a very extraordinary star player who will continue to grow in the future.
Now both Rizwan and Babar are Pakistan’s mainstay players as they target their second T20 World Cup Title.
