  • Imams, muezzins, and preachers in Kuwait must suspend all planned leave during Ramadan 1447 AH.
  • Leave substitutions require a one-week advance request signed by the replacement staff member.
  • The policy aims to meet increased demand for religious services throughout the holy month.

Kuwait’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has issued a directive restricting leave for religious personnel during the upcoming Ramadan.

The new regulations require imams, muezzins, and preachers to suspend approved leave and adjust their work schedules to guarantee continuous mosque operations.

An administrative circular from the ministry’s Mosques Sector Department mandates that all leave for religious staff is halted for the duration of Ramadan 1447 AH (2026).

The policy responds to the significant increase in prayers, sermons, and worship activities that necessitate full staffing.

All leave requests must be submitted at least one week in advance and can only be signed by the substitute employee themselves, prohibiting anyone from signing on another’s behalf.

Extensions will only be considered in emergencies and require a formal written request to department leadership.

Furthermore, substitute staff members are not permitted to take leave during their assigned coverage period.
