Nigeria’s Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has told the state’s Hajj 2026 pilgrims to treat their time in Saudi Arabia as a responsibility, not just a spiritual journey.
Speaking through Deputy Governor Murtala Garo at the Hajj Camp in Kano, the governor urged all 3,620 pilgrims to represent their country and faith with discipline.
Governor’s Message to Pilgrims

The appeal came during a practical demonstration exercise at the Kano Hajj Camp, where pilgrims were guided through the key rites of Hajj before departure.
“You are going to a land where millions of Muslims from all over the world will gather. Let your conduct reflect discipline, humility, brotherhood and the true spirit of Islam,” Yusuf said.
He told pilgrims to obey the laws of Saudi Arabia and follow all instructions from officials coordinating the pilgrimage.
Cash and Ihram for Every Pilgrim
Beyond the address, the governor backed his message with direct support. Each pilgrim received 200 Saudi Riyals from the state government — part of a N265 million package approved to support pilgrims during their stay in Saudi Arabia. Yusuf also provided free Ihram materials to all pilgrims.
Deputy Governor Garo distributed samples of the Ihram to some pilgrims at the camp during the event.
Board Confirms Visas Secured, Departure Set
Director-General of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Abubakar Matawalle, thanked the governor for his backing and gave an update on preparations.
He said the board had cleared all visa requirements for every registered pilgrim and official, despite difficulties during the preparation period.
Matawalle confirmed that medical inoculations and distribution of travel materials had been completed ahead of departure. He also told pilgrims not to carry prohibited items in their luggage and to keep to flight schedules.
The first batch of Nigerian pilgrims from Kano State will leave for Madinah on May 14, 2026.
