The Saudi National Meteorological Center (NMC) has confirmed that Hajj 2025 will be the final summer pilgrimage until 2042.
Recent summer Hajj seasons have seen extreme temperatures of 45–47°C, leading to serious health risks like heatstroke and fatalities—over 2,760 cases of heatstroke were recorded in a single day during Hajj 2024.
Due to the Islamic lunar calendar moving back roughly 10 days each year, Hajj will shift into spring from 2026 to 2033 and then winter from 2034 to 2041.
These cooler periods will offer pilgrims safer, more comfortable conditions for rituals such as tawaf and sa’i. The pilgrimage will return to summer months in 2042, starting a new nine-year cycle.
In response to past heat-related incidents, Saudi authorities are enhancing safety measures: deploying 33 additional weather stations and mobile radars, researching cloud-seeding techniques, running hydration awareness campaigns, and installing shaded pathways and cooling zones along key routes.
These efforts aim to safeguard the well-being of millions of worshipers by ensuring more favorable temperatures during future Hajj seasons.
