Chilean-Palestinian singer Elyanna is at the center of a storm of controversy after footage from her recent performance at the Montreal Festival went viral.
The video shows the singer dancing with a replica of the Zulfiqar sword wrapped around her semi-naked body, sparking outrage among many social media users, especially within the Muslim community.
The Zulfiqar sword, associated with Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib (R.A.), holds importane in Islam.
Historically, it was gifted to Sayyiduna Ali (R.A.) during the Battle of Uhud by the Prophet Muhammad PBUH, and is considered a symbol of bravery and divine support.
Many viewers have expressed their dismay at the sight of the singer using such a sacred symbol in her performance, claiming it shows disrespect to the legacy of Ali ibn Abi Talib (R.A.) and his family.
Especially considering its historical and spiritual significance, including its later use by Sayyiduna Hussain ibn Ali (R.A.) in the Battle of Karbala.
This incident took place during her concert in Montreal, Canada not in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Despite rumors circulating that the performance took place at Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh Season festival, Elyaana has not performed at the event.
Instead, the footage is from her performance at the Montreal’s Music Festival, where she performed in front of a live audience.
The singer is also scheduled to perform at the SOUNDSTORM festival in Saudi Arabia on December, 2024, marking her first appearance in the kingdom.
In response to the backlash, Elyanna has not yet issued any public statements. However, the video continues to attract attention, with discussions intensifying across social media platforms.
As the debate continues, Elyanna’s performance at the upcoming SOUNDSTORM festival will likely be closely scrutinized, with many wondering how this issue may affect her reputation in the region.
