A new directive has been issued by the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques in Saudi Arabia, loudspeakers are now prohibited in the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, as well as their courtyards.

The reasoning is straightforward—preserve tranquility. The mosques, which are spiritual havens for millions of worshipers, can now focus solely on internal audio systems for calls to prayer and sermons.

It’s a move designed to ensure that those within the mosques engage in worship without distraction, and it also addresses noise concerns for those in the surrounding areas.

It’s not the first step the authorities have taken to maintain calm in these crowded, sacred spaces. Measures to manage crowd flow, provide services, and improve overall worship experiences are all part of a larger plan.
