Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, announced that more than 18.5 million pilgrims from outside the Kingdom performed Umrah in 2024.
This record-breaking figure reflects the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to enhance pilgrimage services and accommodate the growing number of visitors to Islam’s holiest sites.
Minister Al-Rabiah attributed the success to the Kingdom’s comprehensive infrastructure upgrades, streamlined visa processes, and advanced digital platforms like the Nusuk app, which simplifies registration and provides real-time guidance for pilgrims.
The Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah underwent significant expansions to accommodate more worshippers. AI-driven systems and real-time monitoring ensured smooth movement between holy sites. Rigorous health protocols, including mandatory vaccinations and on-site medical teams, were implemented to safeguard pilgrims.
In addition to the impressive pilgrimage numbers, al-Rabiah highlighted that over 13 million visitors attended Rawdah Sharif at the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, a great increase from previous years. This surge in visitors is a result of improved reservation systems and enhanced service quality.
The conference also showcased new initiatives aimed at improving pilgrim services, including the launch of Makkah Taxi, a transport service designed to facilitate easier access around Makkah.
With these developments, Saudi Arabia continues to position itself as a premier destination for millions of Muslims seeking spiritual fulfillment through Hajj and Umrah.
