Islamic ruling on featuring your family in vlogs—especially female relatives—based on Qur’anic guidance, Prophetic teachings, and scholarly consensus on hijab, privacy, and public exposure.
With the rise of social media, many Muslims wonder if including their families in vlogs—especially daily life or family content—is Islamically acceptable.
While Islam does not prohibit wholesome creativity or documentation, it draws clear lines when it comes to modesty, hijab, and protecting household privacy.
Is It Permissible to Show My Family in Vlogs?
Simple Answer: No.
Bringing your female relatives on video for non-mehram viewers is highly inappropriate. The family’s privacy and home life are protected from exposure.
Evidence from Qur’an and Hadith
From the Quran
“And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts, and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears…”
(Surah An‑Nūr 24:31)
This verse is the foundation of hijab in Islam. It restricts female adornment and visibility to maḥrams and emphasizes modest public conduct.
“Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do.”
(Surah An‑Nūr 24:30)
Islam does not just command hijab—it also prohibits unnecessary exposure that may tempt the gaze of others. Vlogs that show women—even in normal daily life—can easily violate this principle.
“O you who have believed, do not enter houses other than your own houses until you ascertain welcome and greet their inhabitants…”
(Surah An‑Nūr 24:27)
This verse highlights the sacredness and privacy of the home. Vlogs that showcase family life often reveal details of household spaces and routines that were never meant for public consumption.
Islamic scholars unanimously agree that:
- Women must not appear before non-maḥrams without hijab.
- Privacy should be preserved, especially within the home.
- The purpose of sharing content does not justify violating modesty norms.
Bottom Line
Islam does not permit the public display of women—even in ordinary home life. It is better to stick to male-only vlogs if you’re not able to ensure full hijab and modest content.
Focus on content that benefits the Ummah: skills, knowledge, reminders, and halal entertainment.
Avoid vlogging inside the home if it exposes private family life or creates unnecessary visibility.
Vlogging that includes female family members without full hijab contradicts Qur’anic commands and Prophetic teachings on modesty and privacy of the home.
And Allah knows best.
