One night stands above all others. A night better than a thousand months. More than eighty years of worship packed into a single evening.

Aisha (R.A.) wanted to know what to say if she found that night. The Prophet’s answer was short but deep. He taught her a few words that capture the essence of what every soul needs most on Laylatul Qadr.

Dua To Recite During Laylatul Qadr

This supplication is recorded in Sunan Ibn Majah and Jami’ at-Tirmidhi. Aisha (R.A.) asked the Prophet (ﷺ) what to say if she knew which night was Laylatul Qadr, and he gave her these words.

Dua for Laylatul Qadr

Arabic:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

Transliteration:
Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni

Meaning:
O Allah, You are the Pardoner, You love to pardon, so pardon me.

Why is this Dua Significant?

Aisha (R.A.) asked specifically about Laylatul Qadr. She wanted the best words for the best night. The Prophet did not give her a long complicated prayer. He gave her something short enough to repeat endlessly.

On Laylatul Qadr, you could ask for anything. Wealth. Health. Success.

How many times should you recite this dua?

  • Recite this dua repeatedly throughout Laylatul Qadr, especially in the last ten nights of Ramadan.
  • Say it as many times as you can, with presence of heart and hope in Allah’s pardon.

The exact night of Laylatul Qadr is hidden. It could be the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th.

The Prophet (PBUH) told us to seek it in the odd nights of the last ten. So you spread your prayers across all of them.
