Prophet Zakariyyah (AS) was old. His bones grew weak. His hair turned white. His wife was barren. No children. No hope by any natural measure.
But he had one thing left. A dua that cut through the impossible and reached the throne of Allah.
Dua To Recite When Asking Allah For A Child
This supplication comes directly from the Quran in Surah Al-Anbiya. Prophet Zakariyyah (AS) made this prayer in his old age, asking Allah for a child.

Arabic:
رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ
Transliteration:
Rabbi lā tadharnī fardan wa anta khayru-l-wārithīn
Meaning:
My Lord, do not leave me alone, while You are the best of inheritors.
This dua comes from a prophet. Zakariyyah (AS) was not an ordinary man. He spoke to Allah. He received revelation. Yet he still faced the same human struggles you face. He wanted a child.
He wanted someone to carry his legacy. Someone to continue his work after he left this world. His situation looked hopeless. Age had weakened him. His wife could not bear children. Every door was locked. But he knew one door that never closes.
Allah answered his call. He gave him Yahya (AS). A son born to an old man and a barren woman. A miracle child who became a prophet himself.
How many times should you recite this dua?
- Scholars recommend reciting this dua frequently and consistently with no fixed number.
- Choose times when duas are most likely answered, like the last third of the night or at the time of Adhan.
The same Allah who opened Zakariyyah’s closed doors can open yours.
