Smoke was seen rising from hotel buildings in the Jabal Omar area of Makkah on the morning of 8 September 2026. The area sits close to Ibrahim Al-Khalil Road and Masjid al-Haram (Grand Mosque).

Video from the scene shows thick smoke over the hotel buildings. Streets nearby were crowded as people moved away from the area. Emergency vehicles arrived at the site shortly after.

The fire appears to be in or beside a hotel compound near Masjid al-Haram (Grand Mosque). Emergency teams are on site.

There is no official word yet on what caused the fire or whether anyone was hurt. Saudi Civil Defense is assessing the situation, and more details are expected once the assessment is complete.
